— Construction at the 540-acre Sweetwater Regional Park and Campground has wrapped up and the site will formally reopen Friday at 10 a.m.

Additions include an amphitheater, a 2,600-square-foot wet playground area, three toddler areas, a 13-station exercise course, two restroom buildings, seven recreational vehicle campsites and 56 regular campsites with full hookups. Campsite capacity has been doubled.

A new 4,000-square-foot community and recreation building houses indoor and outdoor fireplaces, a kitchenette and a viewing deck overlooking the Sweetwater Reservoir.

The site’s equestrian camp sites, 15 miles of multiuse nonmotorized trails and other amenities remain intact.

Construction was funded by the county Department of Parks and Recreation, which spent $4.2 million and used a $1.5 million state grant, and the South Bay Expressway, which contributed $5 million.

Supervisor Greg Cox will be in attendance at the unveiling ceremony.

The campground and park are located at 3218 Summit Meadow Road.
